Step one....dream big

Red and I wanted both wanted to roadtrip across America for a number of years. I think its a dream that a lot of Americans share, but few are able to do. That's not to bolster our own egos for foregoing our doubts; we've indeed had our doubts. I should say "have our doubts"--the trip hasn't happened yet!

Once we both realized that we shared that same desire to tour our nation, we just had to wait for the right window of time to let it become a reality. With Ryan just graduating days ago and not starting his first day of work until the beginning of October, he's got plenty of room to move. Not to mention his first day of work in October will on assignment as structural engineer on a major Northwest water treatment plant project. It goes without saying that he's got job security, and plenty of room for leisure in the mean time.

As for myself, I finish up my job a couple days before the trip begins. And in September when we return?...I can always find another job. As the days grow nearer to the start of the journey (and to my becoming homeless and unemployed) a certain sense of excitement grows within me. To have no commitments (other than the trip itself) over the next two months is just as exhilarating as it is stressful. I must say I’m a bit envious of Ryan’s position right now. Not to mention the fact that as we speak, he’s in Rome!

So, this map says you're driving back to Seattle. Did you give up on the northern half of the country?

I think what you are refering to is the red line on the old map. We removed this line in the new map beacuse it was confusing. We are flying back to Seattle for 3 days on the 8th of Aug for a wedding of a mutual friend.

red, fill me in on Rome as I leave sept 17th for three months of art study there.

mark, i remember the first day i met you, talking about how too many people go to other countries without seeing their own. i'm glad you're making it happen.

Hey, myself and a friend of mine currently live in the UK. We're both fairly young (I'm 19 and he's 22) and we plan on doing a road trip around America in June 2010 for as cheap as possible. I was wondering whether you had any tips or anything for us? silverwings90@hotmail.com is my email address. If you could drop me an email if you have any info to help us. We were hoping to do it in a 3 month period... do you think this is possible?

cheers!
